Classes to Enter


Classes Judged

Each Show can only select 7 of the 11 classes.

NOTE: (All ages listed below refer to the age of the dog on the date of each show. Months listed below are calender months. ie. If your dog is born on the 20th of January, he would be 3 months on the 20th of April, 4 months on the 20th of May etc.).

IMPORTANT Please Note: It is common practice to only enter 1 of the following classes at each show.

  • Class 1 - Baby Puppy:

    For dogs 3 months and not exceeding 6 months.

  • Class 2 - Minor Puppy:

    for dogs 6 months and not exceeding 9 months.

  • Class 3 - Puppy:

    For dogs 6 months and not exceeding 12 months.

  • Class 4 - Junior:

    For dogs 9 months and not exceeding 18 months.

  • Class 5 - Intermediate:

    For dogs over 18 months and not exceeding 36 months.

  • Class 6 - Novice:

    For dogs 6 months of age or over which have not been awarded a first prize at an open parade or championship show by the closing date of entries. Baby puppy class excluded.

  • Class 7 - Graduate:

    For dogs 6 months of age or over which have not been awarded a challenge certificate by the closing date of entries.

  • Class 8 - Limit:

    For dogs 12 months of age or over which are not champions or have not gained sufficient points to qualify for the title Australian champion by the closing date of entries.

  • Class 9 - State Bred:

    For dogs 6 months of age or over exhibited in the state in which they were bred.

  • Class 10 - Australian Bred:

    For dogs 6 months of age or over which were bred in Australia.

  • Class 11 - Open:

    For all dogs 6 months of age or over.

    IMPORTANT Please Note:

  • If Entering A Bitch (Female): In the appropriate class place the letter "a" after the class number.
    ie: a Baby Puppy Bitch is in class 1a.

  • If Entering A Dog (Male): The appropriate class is just the class number. .
    ie. a Baby Puppy Dog is in class 1.

    You will notice that your dog may be eligible for a number of classes.
    It is recommended that you enter the class with the lowest number that your dog will fit within.

    South Australia

    Western Australia

    Queensland

    Northern Territory

    As well as the Breed Classes you may also enter any Specialty Classes that are offered.

    Special Classes (For Dogs)

    These can include:

    Sweepstakes-

    You will need to send a separate entry form for Sweepstakes when you enter your Breed Class.

    These are usually divided into 3 - 6 months and 6 - 12 months.

    You must be entered in one of the classes in Breed (listed on the previous page under 'Classes Judged') to be eligible to enter in the sweepstakes.

    All dogs of these age groups from all breeds are judged together and a 1st, 2nd and 3rd (occasionally 4th) are awarded.

    Sweepstakes are usually held at the start of a show.

    Veterans-

    Check your Show Schedule to see if you need to enter in advance or on the day.

    For dogs 7 years old and over of any breed.

    For a Veteran's Sweepstakes, dogs are judged and a 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize awarded.

    For a Veteran's Parade, dogs are not judged.

    Owners are usually required to submit a brief outline of their dog's achievements which are announced as the dog is being shown.

    Property Classes-

    Check your Show Schedule to see if you need to enter in advance or on the day

    These are usually held at Breed Specialty Shows (Shows that are for only one breed of dog.).

    These classes are usually for judging a characteristic that is specific to the breed, such as Best Spotted for a Dalmatian Specialty, but can also include such things as Best Head, Best Tail or Best Gait (Movement).

    Brace-

    Check your Show Schedule to see if you need to enter in advance or on the day

    A Brace is for two dogs of the same breed shown together. Brace is usually judged as a Sweepstakes.

    The idea is to show two dogs that compliment each other. The dogs are judged in combination.

    Check the show schedule for restrictions.

    Fun Classes-

    Check your Show Schedule to see if you need to enter in advance or on the day

    Some shows may offer fun classes such as 'The Waggiest Tail', 'Fancy Dress' for you and your dog, or 'Dog�/�Owner Look A Like'.

    Special Classes (For Handlers)

    Junior Handlers-

    The age groups are usually listed in the schedule.

    The most common age groups are

  • Tiny Tots (under 7 years) This group is not often included.
  • 7 to under 12 years
  • 12 to under 17 years

    Pal Junior Handlers Heats-

    If the Junior Handlers is listed as a PAL Heat, then there are special rules

    Ladies Or Gentlemen's Handlers-

    These classes are included at the discretion of the show organisers.
